Platja de Sant Joan is situated at three kilometres from Alcúdia, between Punta de Manresa and Platja de Sant Pere, which together with this one are the only two sandy areas of this rocky coastal stretch of Alcudia. On this headland there is Castell (Castle) de Manresa, a fortress built on a platform of 28 metres to defend the bay of Pollença, together with la Fortalesa, built on the other side of the same bay. There are some hundred metres in the sun between this beach and the fortress. This sandy area is surrounded by rocky areas, it has white fine-grained sand and the different houses on the coastline have reduced the system of dunes, although the surrounding vegetation, thistle, pine wood and others are still fixing this substract. This coast is not safe for anchoring boats because it is too low and the wind is blowing strong from the north. The navigator who wants to do this manoeuvre will find a sandy ground with a depth of three metres at two hectometres from the coast. The nearest port facilities are located at Marina de Donaire “Cocodrilo”, at 0,5 nautical miles. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs toward the village of Mal Pas that lead to this beach. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings, and then you have to go down the stairs to reach the beach. These characteristics explain that the beach is not too crowded by local visitors and tourists. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards’ instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. Information about this beach may change.
