Cala Conills

Cala es Conills, Cala Conills or Cala Molins is situated at nine kilometres from Andratx. This beautiful small corner is covered by pebbles and gravel surrounded by a rocky area of sandstone (marès), and with some beached boats and escars here and there. This beach used to be a marès quarry in the past. The scientist think that the blocks that came from here were used to build el Castell. In 1394 the king Jaume II wanted the tower (1302) next to the oratory and the hospital (1279), dedicated to Sant Elm, saint of the navigators, to become a castle, with the attack against the chapel and tabernacle by the pirates. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are not very safe, so that the navigator has to be very careful for the following reasons. If the strong wind blows from the west, it is very dangerous, and there are some rocks at half a hectometre from the coast and at a depth of two metres. This is why it is difficult to enter and disembark. At one hectometre from the coast there is a depth of six metres. The nearest port facilities are located at Port d‘Andratx, at 3,4 nautical miles. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs. You can park your car for free in the surroundings of this beach, in the streets of Cala Conills. You can also reach this beach with the public transport. The nearest bus stop is located at half a kilometre. These characteristics explain that the beach is not very crowded by local visitors.
