Cala Pedrera or Padera is situated at one kilometre from the centre of Es Castell de Menorca (founded by the English with the name of Georgetown), located between Punta de Sant Carles and Cales Fonts, surrounded by the villages of Sol de l’Est and Santa Ana, as well as in the interior of the beautiful and spectacularly deep sea inlet (more than three nautical miles) of the Port de Maó. This small bathing are is u-shaped and it is characterized by being protected from the swell by the Illa de Llatzaret (where there is a fortress which was still used in 1917, where the crews and goods were kept in quarantine against possible epidemies), it has a beach with fine-grained sand and rocks on the sides, it has an orientation toward northeast, a normal slope, calm water, a canyon (Barranc de Cala Padera) which closes the rear, and fig trees that reach the coastline on this beach. These characteristics explain that the beach is very crowded by local visitors and tourists, and it is especially indicated for children because it is very safe and there are facilities at Parque de Cala Padera, next to the beach, where there is a multifunctional court for the children, you can play boules and there is an exterior fitness area for adults. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good, because it is in the interior of Port de Maó, one of the safest port infrastructures and one of the most appreciated by the navigators of the Mediterranean Sea, where all types of boats can be found (maximum draught of 30 metres). When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards’ instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. Information about this beach may change.
