Calo de S'Oli- Punta Pedrera
Caló de s’Oli and Punta de sa Pedrera, where some rests of Roman constructions and old quarries have been found, is situated at three kilometres from la Savina, between Punta des Desterrats and ses Bassetes, parallel to the area of Portossaler and next to the wetland es Estanyets and the coastal lake Estany des Peix (Àrea Natural d’Especial Interès). In this natural setting nudism is allowed. This very long coastal stretch belongs to the semicirular bay which is adjacent to Port de la Savina (only sea communication from Formentera to the exterior) and the natural barrier of 3,4 kilometres a shaped coast which includes the coves of ses Bassetes, sa Boca and Punta d’Ensenat which separates Estany des Peix from the sea. This saline pond is a nearly closed sea inlet, with less than five metres of depth, which is only open to the sea by a very small entrance which looks like a channel, which makes this reservoir unique in the Balearic Islands. On the other side, the nearby Estanyets is a wetland area formed by a small valley with some salt pans which are no longer in used. A lot of migratory birds come to this wetland to find some food or to hibernate. Nests are not very frequent because of the lack of vegetation in the surroundings. there are lots of seagulls and cormorans, whereas in the rest of Formentera they are unusual. These characteristics explain that the beach is not very crowded by local visitors and tourists. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards’ instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. Information about this beach may change.
