Caló Fort o Caló de Can Mercadal is situated at 15 kilometres from Llucmajor, between Punta de ses Punxes and Calonet de s’Almadrava, and also below the villages of Cala Blava and Bellavista. The residents of these villages are the most assiduous and regular visitors of this place. The beach is the result of a u-shaped sea entrance and the mouth of a torrent. This is why the rocky area, surrounded by medium-high cliffs, residences and a pine wood, has also some sand. The marine and underwater conditions allow the anchoring of boats only if the weather is good, due to the fact that the coast is wide open and not even the boats with little draught would resist the force of the wind and the sea from southwest to north. Nevertheless, if the conditions are good, the navigator can approach the coast and anchor on the sandy areas that can be seen in front of this beach. The nearest port facilities are located at Club Nàutic s’Arenal. This rocky coast which is typical for the southern and south-western area of the island begins at Cala Sant Antoni, adjacent to the starboard breakwater of Club Nàutic s’Arenal, and finishes at the sandy area of sa Ràpita (Campos). The stretch between Punta de s’Arenal and sa Pesquera des Governador is full of steep cliffs, (Calonet de s’Almadrava and des Cap Alt, es Mollet des Rei, and other corners), a result of the wind, the sea currents and the mouth of the torrents.
