Cala Binimel.là is situated at 10 kilometres from es Mercadal, located between Punta d’en Bal.la and Illot, Cala and Esculls de Pregonda. This coastal stretch has marine and underwater conditions that do not recommend anchoring boats. The proximity of es Mercadal invites you to eat in the cradle of the menorcan gastronomy and to visit the highest mountain of the island, el Toro (358 metres high). This summit is situated at 3,5 kilometres form the village and it is the geographic centre of Menorca, on the top of which you can see Santuari de la Verge del Toro, patron saint of the island, from where you have an excellent panoramic view over Menorca. This sea inlet is characterized by the huge size, it is u-shaped, at the rear there is a system of dunes with fixing vegetation (scrubland and bushes) and a wetland irrigated by a torrent. The beach has dark pebbles, moderate swell, gentle breeze, an orientation toward northeast, and it is the largest and has the best accessibility of this Àrea Natural d’Especial Interès and it is nearly virgin. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs. The last two kilometres have to be done on a minor track. The private car can be left on a free parking area in the surroundings. You will pass some rural fincas on your way, called llocs here in Menorca. These characteristics explain that the beach is not very crowded by local visitors and tourists. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards’ instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. Information about this beach may change.
