Algar
Platja or Cala de s’Algar is situated at the eastern part of Punta de ses Crestes, a headland which is the natural breakwater of the Port de Portocolom. It is located between sa Cova Gran and Cova des Bufador. It is also the first nearby cove that is situated outside the bay of the port of Felanitx on the left side. It is the last beach of the municipality of Felanitx and adjacent to the municipality of Manacor. The name of this sandy area comes from the huge amount of seaweed which can normally be found here. The farmers of the surroundings used to take the vegetal underwater species for the fertilization. This fine-grained sandy area is part of a small inlet and depending on the storms the area of Platja de s’Algar will have sand or not. In the surroundings of this cove you will find lots of rocky areas and very resistant scrubland. The accessibility by car is easy until this piece of coast. You only have to follow the signs until Portocolom. The private car can be left in the surroundings next to the rocks that are adjacent to this sandy area. These characteristics explain that the beach is not very crowded, there are lots of fishers, the residents of Felanitx and people who spend the summer in the surroundings and come here to find a wonderful clean water.
