Es Freu de ses Covetes (“the strait of the little caves” in English”) is situated at 11 kilometres from Campos. The name ses Covetes comes from the many natural caves that used to belong to a nearby rocky area, which was exploited as a quarry. The stones of this quarry were used to build the Renaissance defence walls of Palma. This coastal corner became a summer colony at the end of the 19th century. This quiet beach, which is located between sa Ràpita and es Trenc is a small picturesque rocky area which is only 50 metres long. This small u-shaped sea inlet is less crowded than the nearby sandy area of ses Covetes. The construction of a controversial village was begun on the rocky area, but then stopped through judicial channel due to the fact that it belongs to the Àrea Natural Protegida between es Trenc and es Salobrar de Campos. The nearest port facilities are located at Club Nàutic sa Ràpita, at one nautical mile. In the surroundings we will find the thermal spring of 38 °C, already known by the Romans, which can relieve dermatological and bone diseases, nowadays exploited by Estación Termal de Sant Joan de la Fontsanta, unique in Majorca. The beach is not too crowded. The accessibility by car is easy following the signs. If you are coming by private car, you can park for free on an area next to the beach, and the nearest bus stop is at about a hundred metres. Information about this beach may change.
