Cala dels Camps Vells has got different names, Cala dels Camps, Ca los Camps, Ca los Cans or Caló’s Cans. It is thought that the first name was Caló des Cans. This beach is situated at 15 kilometres from Artà between Punta de Calo’s Cans (excellent panoramic views over the bay of Alcúdia) and sa Cugassa, aswell as below the Ermita de Betlem (built at 300 metres above the sea level) and sa Coassa (321 metres high). This coastal corner is the result of the mouth of the Torrent dels Cocons (which comes from the comellar with the same name) and the marine erosion which has formed a v-shaped sea inlet of fossil dune. This beautiful virgin beach has a quite gentle slope, pebbles, a stony ground and the presence of tamarisks next to the coastline. There are also some escars (dry docks) and a defense place from machine-gunning during the Civil War. From this cove on, the coast has less vegetation and becomes steeper. This beach is located between the village of Betlem and Colònia de Sant Pere. In a forest nearby, which you can reach walking on the trail which is parallel to the coast and passing the possessió (rural finca) Son Mascaró toward west, you will find the prehistoric Talaiots de Can Pa amb Oli (“bread with oil” is a typical majorcan dish made of a piece of bread with tomato on in and a bit of olive oil).
