Can Curt
Es Can Curt is situated at six kilometres from Campos, between Punta de sa Galera and sa Roca des Caragol (excellent panoramic views). Between these geographical points we find the rocky area Penyalor de Can Curt and Illot Can Curt, lookout of the horizon. This coastal area of the southern extreme of Majorca is characterized by a landscape which is very eroded, and the coast has slopes with a maximum height of two metres. At the rear there is the system of dunes, which is typical for this region, and in the interior there is the Àrea Natural d’Especial Interès Cap de ses Salines (possessions Pla d’en Castell and sa Vinya de sa Vallet). These dunes are fossils and on the top there are the tracks of the Myotragus balearicus, a sort of extinct goat which used to populate the Balearic archipelago in the past. This ruminant was trapped on the Balearic Islands five million years ago, because of the rising of the Mediterranean Sea. The absence of predators explains an untypical evolution: they got smaller and developed some enormous incisors. The lack of competence explains the super population which ended with the arrival of mankind. The marine and underwater conditions don’t allow anchoring a boat. You are recommended to do this manoeuvre at the beautiful nearby Platja des Caragol. This sandy area, open from southeast to west, has a sandy and stony ground with some seaweed, at a depth that ranges between three and five metres. The nearest port facilities are located at Port Colònia de Sant Jordi. Information about this beach may change.
