Racó or Platja de s’Alga is situated at s’Espalmador, an island which is 1,5 miles long and 0,7 large, and very next to Ibiza on the southern area of Pas de s’Espalmador and at seven kilometres from Formentera (la Savina). It is located between Punta de s’Arena and de Castevi, building the semicircular inlet of s’Alga. In this natural setting nudism is allowed. This beautiful and virgin beach is characterized by the fact of being very long, it has fine-grained white sand and an extensive system of dunes at the rear, fixed by bushes and it has crystal clear water. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good if you are very careful because there are reefs, small islands and it is not very deep. Sa Torreta, a defence tower which was built in the 18th century and a small rural house are the footprints of mankind in this natural setting, like in an adventure film. The small island of s’Espalmador is so beautiful that they have been a model for Walt Disney studios to design the Island of Neverland for the film Peter Pan. The access to Racó de s’Alga can only be done on the sea way, with a private boat or with a passenger launch that reaches this enormous sandy area. Nevertheless, the beach is very crowded by local visitors and tourists. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards’ instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. Information about this beach may change.
