Cala Murta

Cala Murta is situated at 15 kilometres from Port de Pollença. This s-shaped spectacular sea inlet continues for about 180 metres toward the interior (the entrance is about 150 metres large) and it finishes on a semicircular beach similar to a bay, where a torrent flows into the sea. The cliffs on the sides are populated by holm oaks on the right side and on the left side there is a possessió (rural finca) called Cala Murta and the Oratorio Mare de Déu de Formentor, surrounded by a pine wood. These areas belong to Fundació Rotger-Villalonga together with the bishopric of Majorca, they use this infrastructure as a colony house. The gravel and the sand build the substract of this nearly virgin beach. The marine and underwater conditions are excellent for anchoring boats in this sea inlet because it is very sheltered from the wind from the north. The depth ranges from eight metres at two hectometres from the coast to four at one hectometre from the beach, and eleven in the entrance, on a rocky ground with seaweed. At 5,9 nautical miles there is Port de Pollença. The accessibility by car is easy until the deviation of the possessió de Cala Murta. The last 1.700 metres have to be done on foot following a track because the access is restricted in this area. These characteristics explain that the beach is not too crowded by local visitors and tourists, young people of the summer colonies. Information about this beach may change.
