Cala Torta is situated at 10 kilometres from es Mercadal, located between Punta de sa Torre and des Vernís. From its coast you can see far away the Illa des Porros. This bathing area is the result of a shell shaped sea inlet, quite small, with no vegetation in the surroundings and with a steep and abrupt coast. The headland that separates Cala Torta from Port de Sanitja includes Torre de Sanitha, a defence tower which rises 15 metres above the sea level. This fortress is not very well preserved nowadays because of the erosion of the sea and the wind. This conic structure with octagonal form was built with stones, mortar and marès. At a small distance from Torre de Sanitja you can still find another smaller construction. This might have been used by the guard. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are good, because it is very sheltered with a depth that reaches nine metres. In the proximity of Punta des Vernís there is s’Escull d’en Vernís, the strait is very dangerous. Information about this beach may change. To confirm the data or consult changes or new features, please contact the municipal tourism office below: Tourist Information – Es Mercadal General information on the island: Tourist Information – Menorca Port de Sanitja is located in the interior of a narrow sea inlet (800 metres long), which is a good shelter for boats although it is not protected from the winds from the west-northwest. This coastal stretch is very near Cap de Cavalleria (“cap of cavalry”), the northernmost place of Menorca with a maximum height of 80 metres.
