Calo de Sa Torre

Caló de sa Torre is situated at 4,5 kilometres from Cala d’Or and the name comes from an old defence tower, which is nowadays a ruin, built here in 1626 in order to prevent from attacks by the Saracene pirates. The beach is made up by two small coves, separated by a small rocky headland of little height, fine-grained sand and gentle slope. On the rest of the rocky coastline there are small stairs to reach the water, made by the owners of the residences next to the sea. The marine and underwater conditions do not allow anchoring boats due to the sandbanks on the ground, although you might see some sandy areas next to the entrance. The beach is sheltered from the wind by Punta de sa Torre. The nearest port facilities are located at Reial Club Nàutic Portopetro, at 0,7 nautical miles. The accessibility by car is easy on carretera al Caló de sa Torre from s’Alqueria Blanca or Portopetro, if you keep an eye on the signs. Once you have reached the place you can park in the surroundings, next to the holiday houses. The beach is not very crowded. The coves sa Torre and dels Homos Morts are the two pieces of coast that belong to Portopetro, this beautiful port of the southern Migjorn, between Mondragó and Cala d’Or, and well known for the excellent fish and the caldereta de langosta (lobster stew).
