El Peñón is situated at nine kilometres east from Palma, between Platja de Ciutat Jardí and Punta de sa Torre, and in front of the military club Fortí Torre d’en Pau, A construction which was finished in 1898 in order to defend the bay of Palma from a possible attack by the USA because of the Cuba’s war. Nowadays the surroundings belong to the municipality and there are used as a public park. This beach is a small sandy area, fine-grained, with gentle slope and little swell. Next to the natural breakwater on the eastern part, which closes the beach, there is es Descarregador de Guix (“Gypsum quarry”). This rocky headland was used as a quarry during the 19th and 20th century. Nowadays it is a restaurant. This sandy area is mostly visited by families every day. The most attractive is the easy accessibility and the very good bathing conditions for small children. From el Peñón you can reach the nearby Platja de Ciutat Jardí on foot, between both beaches there is only a very small headland, sa Paret Blanca. You can park for free near the beach. The next bus stop is at half a kilometer and there is a cycling lane. The water of Ciutat Jardí is good for anchoring if the navigator keeps a reasonable distance from the coast because it is not very deep. The nearest port facilities are located at Club Nàutic Cala Gamba, at 0,5 nautical miles. Information about this beach may change.
