Cala en Calderer or Cala Calderer is situated at nine kilometres from es Mercadal, located between the Punta with the same name and Cala Moragues. This coastal stretch is the border between the municipalities of Ferreries and es Mercadal, and this is why half beach belongs to each municipality. This virgin, isolated and quiet beach has no facilities and it is not crowded at all. It is the result of a sea inlet which is the origin of a shell-shaped beach with sand, rocks and seaweed. The size is quite small (only 70 metres long). It is located between the slopes of the green hills of Penyes de Son Ermità (eastern end), which is an Àrea Natural d’Especial Interès of the northern coast of Menorca. The marine and underwater conditions for anchoring boats are only excellent in a small beach which is located in the eastern area. The accessibility to this isolated beach is complicated and difficult. The visitor has to reach the fork of Son Ermità. Here you can park your private car and continue on foot on the track you will find on the right side. From this point until Cala Calderer you will have to walk for 2,5 kilometres, passing though the hills and finca Son Ermità. On the right side of Cala Calderer there is a track that leads to Cala Barril, after walking for 1,2 kilometres, from where you can see Illa Bledes. When the beach has a lifeguard service, you must follow the lifeguards’ instructions and the warnings on flags. A red flag indicates dangerous swimming conditions and means that swimming is not permitted. A yellow flag indicates that precaution must be taken, but that swimming is permitted. A green flag indicates that swimming is permitted. An orange flag is used to indicate that the lifeguard is absent. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches. Information about this beach may change.
