Canons Banyera Ermitans

Es Canons, the name comes from the forest area with the same name and the rests of the nearby coastal artillery), sa Banyera dels Ermitans or es Maresos (old quarry) is situated at 16 kilometres from Artà, between sa Ferradura and Punta de Calo’s Cans or Ca los Camps. This cove is very near the village of Betlem and below the Ermita and the public area with the same name (300 metres above the sea level), as well as sa Coassa (321 metres high). All this area belongs to the Àrea Natural d’Especial Interès Muntanyes d’Artà. The coast of es Canons, which goes from Punta de ses Saupes until es Maresos, presents a scrubland and bush vegetation, as well as an irregular form, a steep profile and a particular shape. There are lots of stone headlands and small cliffs (fossil dunes with some rocky rests). In this place there are two bigger sea inlets, one after the other, s’Aigo Dolca-sa Ferradura and sa Banyera dels Ermitans-es Maresos (in the surroundings there is the megalithic tomb of s’Aigo Dolça, one of the oldest architectural features in Majorca). The marine and underwater conditions are not good at all for anchoring boats in front of this cove because there are lots of rocks, it is not very deep and the ground is full of seaweed, stones and some sandy areas. These inconvenients are the reason why in this area there are only boats with little draught. The nearest port facilities are located at Port Colònia de Sant Pere.
